In today’s blog, we’re going to talk about how we got here: how the founders got their start, what drove them to start Yoder Electric in a small office in their home, and why an electrician felt the need to branch out into plumbing, as well.
Meet the Founders
You may know our companies as Yoder Electric and Yoder Plumbing, but the full company name is R & T Yoder Electric. Who’s the R? Who’s the T? What makes them so important?
R & T stands for our founders, Rod and Tina Yoder. Before he got the idea to start his own business, Rod worked as an electrician on the LeVeque Tower maintenance team for nearly 20 years. As Rod gained an increasing amount of experience and certifications, his wife Tina and the people around him started to say, “Why not start your own company? You’re great at what you do, and you should do it your way.”
So, with Tina’s support, Rod did exactly that. In 2004, he and Tina founded Yoder Electric together in their small home office. At first, it was just the two of them: Rod doing electrical work, Tina providing administrative support. Over the years, their little electrical company grew from a two-man operation to a thriving local company with over 30 employees. Now, Yoder Electric has multiple locations, and the founders’ children Vincent, Mitchell, and Zachary are all part of the business.
The Start of Yoder Plumbing
At this point, you’re probably asking yourself how an electrician got the idea to found a plumbing company. The answer to that question is simple: Rod and Tina saw the community’s need for a reputable, locally-owned plumbing company… and decided to meet that need themselves.
By starting Yoder Plumbing as a sister company to Yoder Electric, Rod and Tina made it clear to that the team at Yoder Plumbing holds the same values of family, community, and putting the customer first. As a result, long-time Yoder Electric customers can rest easy knowing that if their sewer line collapses or their water heater breaks down, they can get help from a plumber who comes from a place they already trust.
